EMDR, CBT & ACT Therapy In Highgate , London N6
My Approach
I believe that each person carries their own measure of psychological suffering. Of course, many people will have found helpful ways of coping without the need for psychological support. However, when a person feels stuck, locked in unhelpful patterns of behaviour, mired in unhelpful thinking, and unable to move towards what truly matters to them, the support of a professional can be crucial.
Using a integrative and collaborative approach I work with people to recognise their strengths and find new ways of coping with the challenges they face. This involves developing a comprehensive and shared understanding of the the main issues facing them, how they came to be, and their specific goals for psychological therapy. As such, my approach is tailored and structured to provide you with the best outcome.
As a practitioner health psychologist and psychotherapist my specific area of expertise lies in supporting people living with physical health conditions. I'm passionate about supporting people to live as well as they can with the challenges they face which may include, difficult physical symptoms, various restrictions to their life, challenging treatments and anxiety about the future.
Cognitive behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based psychological treatment for a range of psychological difficulties. CBT teaches you coping skills for dealing with different problems. CBT concentrates on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and actions. CBT treatment is a time-limited and collaborative treatment that typically involves efforts to change thinking and behavioural patterns that may be maintaining or creating problems for you in your life.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Acceptance and commitment therapy (pronounced as one word ‘ACT’) is a form of behavioural therapy that uses mindfulness strategies to help us accept the difficulties we face in life. Like CBT, it is a time-limited and evidence-based approach for a range of psychological difficulties. Unlike CBT, it does not concentrate on changing thinking patterns. Instead, ACT aims to change your relationship with your thoughts and feelings so you can loosen their grip and free yourself from the patterns that bind and prevent you from living a meaningful, and enjoyable life. The therapy incorporates acceptance strategies, mindfulness techniques, and a wide range of evidence-based behavioural approaches.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a comprehensive psychotherapy that helps you process and recover from past experiences that are affecting your mental health and wellbeing. It involves using side to side eye movements combined with talk therapy in a specific and structured format. EMDR helps you process the negative images, emotions, beliefs, and body sensations associated with traumatic memories that seem to be stuck. These can contribute to a range of mental health problems. EMDR is best known as a therapy for treating trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It’s recognised by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a treatment for PTSD, but it can be used to help with a range of mental health difficulties. For example, I have found it to be very helpful for anxiety and phobias. For more information visit https://emdr-europe.org/about/what-is-emdr/
